What To Expect on Our Visit.

Before your Visit.

Gather Medical History

Send us all previous medical records for your pet(s) or ask your previous Veterinarian to email us the records to: [email protected]. Reviewing your pet’s records helps us better understand their health history and provide them with the best care.

Complete Pre-Visit Documents and Questionnaires

We will be reaching out to you via email weeks or days prior to your pets scheduled appointment.  Key information we need to make your pet’s veterinary experience ideal includes medical history details, nutrition information, and any special concerns you may have about your pet.

A key benefit to in home veterinary services is reducing the Fear/Anxiety/Stress complex your pet experiences.  Please make sure that we have all information concerning your pet’s levels of Fear/Anxiety/Stress.  With this information we can plan our approach and send you mild oral sedatives for use with your loved one (if warranted) to make for a much improved experience for all.

Prepare Area

We can perform the examination and all of our services in any area of your home. We have found that pets prefer the living room ground or couch, but we can go wherever they are most comfortable. Even though we come prepared with towels, treats and toys, you can also have their favorite toy or a familiar blanket handy to help them stay even more calm and relaxed.

Collect Fecal/Urine Sample (if applicable)

If we are screening your pet for intestinal parasites, please have a fresh fecal sample ready. It is recommended to get a fecal test done once a year. If we are performing a urinalysis on a cat, please pick up their litter box 3 hours before our visit.

Withhold Food (if blood samples are needed)

If a fasted blood sample is needed, we will notify you via email/text before your appointment, so you can make sure to withhold their food for 12 hours before blood is drawn.

During Visit: 1st Half.

Arrival

Please make sure you (and any pets) are available during your scheduled appointment time. In the rare instance where there is a delay caused from traffic or an emergency situation, we will promptly notify you with a more accurate appointment window. If you are not available when we arrive or need to change your appointment, please notify us as soon as possible and make sure you are aware of our Cancellation Policy.

Greeting & Pet Introduction

Upon arrival, the first thing we do is shower your pet with love and treats. After becoming their new best friend, we can work with them in a relaxed setting where they remain calm and behave normally.  If at this time your pet is experiencing a higher level of Fear/Anxiety/Stress than necessary, with your permission we can administer a mild and safe sedative.

Services and Medical History Review

While giving your pet lots of attention, we will confirm with you which service you have requested (Wellness plan, House Call, etc.).  To provide your pet with the best care possible, we thoroughly review their medical history with you, gain a complete understanding of their previous health or any prior issues, and actively listen to any of your concerns. We also take the time to answer any and all of your initial questions.

Nutritional Planning

Since an animal’s diet, weight and nutritional intake are the most controllable areas of their long term health, your vet will create an individualized diet plan for your pet by calculating proper portion sizing for food/treats and recommending food types after factoring in their age, lifestyle & health

Examination

By the time your vet starts the examination, your pet should be relaxed and comfortable with the doctor without feeling added pressure or stress. We will have all of the necessary diagnostic equipment to perform a full exam, vaccinations & any additional services wherever your pet is the most comfortable, whether in their bed, on the couch or on the living room floor.

Additional Services

Our vets can do everything from basic tests, like fecal & heartworm screening, to advanced diagnostic testing such as blood panels, urinalysis, among others.

Questions

After the veterinarian has complete their work, they also take as much time as you need to answer all of your questions. We want every pet parent to be as aware, involved & educated as possible.

Recommendations & Follow-Up Plan

Before leaving, your vet will provide you with any necessary treatment and care recommendations moving forward. You will also receive a Home PetVet Report giving a detailed health overview, along with educational materials regarding any issues that were uncovered – within 2 days.

We will also guide you through getting signed up on MyVetStore Online.  This will allow you to purchase pet and veterinary products straight from a distributor.  Clients on Wellness Plans will also receive their appropriate discounts.  If interested we can also guide you through setting up Hills and/or Purina Pet Nutrition memberships.

Payment

At the very end of the house call we will present your invoice and receive payment. Euthanasia fees will be collected at the beginning of euthanasia appointments (works best this way).  If you are on a Wellness Plan we will refund your appointment deposit and no payment is due (unless there were services rendered or products dispensed not included in the Wellness Plan).  If you are not on a Wellness Plan we will collect payment in full (minus the appointment deposit). To ensure you can afford the best medical care for your pet Home PetVet offers a monthly payment plan if you desire.

Chat with Your Vet

After your Home PetVet Visit, we understand some pet parents might think of additional questions or have concerns about potential side effects of any administered vaccines or medications, which is why we give you access to communicate directly with your vet via a telemedicine call within 1 week after your appointment. Wellness plan clients have the added benefit of multiple telemedicine calls throughout the year. All clients are welcome and encouraged to reach out to us via text or email at any time, no charge.

Receive Test Results

All of the diagnostic results will be fully interpreted along with added educational material, so you have a clear and comprehensive understanding of all findings. These reports will be emailed to you.  Your vet will also be available to answer any of your questions or concerns.

Delivery of Any Items

If you need to receive any preventatives (for flea/ticks or for heartworm), medications, supplements, or food after your appointment, it will be delivered right to your door.

Referrals to Specialists

If your vet determines that it’s in the best interest of your pet to see a specialist, we have partnerships with local veterinarians specializing in all areas (orthopedics, cardiac, dermatology, ophthalmology, behavior, dentistry, etc.). We will provide you with a referral, submit your pet’s medical records to the specialist, and work closely with them to facilitate any long term treatment plans.

Pet parents who are looking to save money, enhance their pet’s care and get a ton of extra perks can continue on a Wellness Plan (if not already signed up). Once you experience the Wellness Package standard of care, you’ll never want anything less!
