MEET YOUR VET

Dr. Robert Birkle grew up on the outskirts of a small town located on the Mississippi River in south eastern Minnesota.  After completing high school Dr. Birkle enlisted in the Army, eager to serve his country.  Upon completing his time in the Army Dr. Birkle attended Winona State University in Minnesota, receiving his BS in Cell and Molecular Biology.

Having a passion for medicine, science, and animals, applying to attend the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine was the obvious choice.  After graduating Veterinary College, Dr. Birkle worked at a practice in northern Wisconsin for approximately a year before starting his own practice in northern Indiana in 2002.

With 20+ years’ experience in individual animal care and consultation services, Dr. Birkle saw a need in the Fort Wayne area for “House Call Pet Veterinary Services” and launched Home PetVet in 2021.  Dr. Birkle recognized that with busy family activity schedules, and the senior population, bringing pets to a veterinary clinic is not always ideal.  Home PetVet was designed to allow pet owners to maintain top quality preventative medicine for their loved ones in a more convenient and consistent manner.

Dr. Birkle lives in southwest Allen County with his wife, 3 school age kids, 2 dogs and a cat.  Dr. Birkle is still a member of the United States Army, as Captain in the United States Army Reserve Veterinary Corp.
